Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 17-year-old girl, accusing her of killing a 10-year-old boy in an attempt to fulfill a ritualistic demand from an online acquaintance.
According to the police, the girl had been communicating with an unidentified individual for some time. The person allegedly directed her to engage in sexual activity with a man multiple times and to send him images of his semen. The girl followed these instructions.
Police spokesperson Cassim Manda said that the girl had been sending explicit photos to her online acquaintance. Later, the acquaintance threatened to harm her if she did not follow his instructions. This is when the girl started performing unusual acts and was told that the spirit demanded a human sacrifice, threatening her and her family with danger if she did not comply.
Manda continued to explain that the girl is suspected to have taken the boy, a relative, from their home in Mtandire, taken him to a guesthouse, and killed him by stabbing him three times.
The guesthouse worker discovered the boy’s body under the bed and informed the police, who then arrested the suspect.
“We, the police, are warning people, especially those from Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, to be cautious of unknown individuals they meet online,” Manda advised.
