A woman in her early 30s is in police custody for allegedly using her hired Toyota Hilux Double Cab as collateral in the capital Lilongwe.
The suspect has been identified as Towera Diana Bomba.
The fact of the matter is that the woman approached her fellow lady identified as Florence who is into car hire business where she rented the vehicle two months ago.
It is said that the woman then changed car ownership into her name and used it as collateral for a loan she obtained from an identified businessman.
She also changed the number plate from DZ 9502 to MN1 10522.
But the owner was not aware of the whole ordeal up to few days ago when she requested for the return of the vehicle.
The suspect started playing hide and seek games and later stopped responding to the calls, forcing the owner to report the matter to police hence the arrest.
The car has since been returned to the owner.
