President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Maputo, Mozambique, where he will engage in a series of official duties related to several bilateral agreements between Malawi and Mozambique.
Chakwera was welcomed at Maputo International Airport by Mozambique’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Hermenigildo Caitano, and the High Commissioner of Mozambique to Malawi, Alexandre Manjate, among other government officials from both countries.
Speaking before departure at Kamuzu International Airport Chakwera said strengthening bilateral relations with Mozambique is critical in enhancing development between the two countries.
Chakwera said at the invitation of his Mozambican counterpart, President Fillipe Nyusi, the two will discuss how the two governments can cement existing bilateral relations in critical areas of human and economic development such as trade and investment.
“This week the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) will also hold a Heads of State Summit in Harare, Zimbabwe. The two events, demonstrate that we are part of the region and we have excellent ties with our neighbours,” he stated.
