The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has announced that it is open to political alliances ahead of the 2025 elections.

Speaking during the media briefing in the capital Lilongwe MCP Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwila said the alliances will be based on condition that Lazarus Chakwera will be the torchbearer.

Kabwila emphasised that despite being open to alliances, the party is confident in its ability to secure a 50+1 majority if it will contest the September 2025 General Elections independently.

The press briefing also aimed to introduce the newly-elected National Executive Committee , which assumed office last week.

Kabwila replaced Ezekiel Ching’oma on the post.
