A statement from the United Democratic Front (UDF) has clarified that their invitation to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) convention does not signify the beginning of a coalition for the 2025 elections.
According to the party’s spokesperson Yusuf Mwawa, UDF sent their senior member, Kandi Padambo, to the convention merely as an observer.
Mwawa noted that any coalition efforts are premature since the UDF has not yet held its own major convention and the party’s senior leaders have not agreed on forming alliances with other parties.
The UDF and DPP previously collaborated in the 2020 elections.
The DPP is scheduled to hold its major convention at the end of this week in Blantyre.
