A tragic road accident in the Shire Highlands escarpment near Thamboni has resulted in the death of a pregnant woman, Jessie Bakisoni, but miraculously, her baby girl was born shortly after the incident on Sunday.
The accident, which took place at Thamboni, claimed the life of Bakisoni and injured several others.
William Allan, the Administrator at Trinity Hospital, confirmed the development, stating that the baby girl weighs 3.4 kilograms and is in good health. Allan explained that the force of the accident caused Bakisoni to go into labor, resulting in the birth of the baby girl.
The newborn was quickly taken to Trinity Hospital in Fatima for observation, where she is currently being cared for. Allan also noted that several other victims of the accident are receiving treatment at the hospital.
Government health officials visited the facility to check on the injured, including the newborn.
