A 48-year-old ex-convict Boika Sabiti has been arrested by Police in Mangochi for possessing an offensive weapon on the night of August 19th, 2024, at a drinking joint in the township.
Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police Station Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi has confirmed of the arrest indicating that the suspect, who hails from Kalonga Village, Traditional Authority Mapira, in Mangochi on the said date was found with a steel object, approximately 60 cm long.
“Police acted on a tip off by well-wishers that the suspect was in possession of a dangerous object hideen in a black bag made from sharp, pointed metals,” Daudi said.
She revealed that the suspect claimed the object was intended for killing crocodiles, but he could not explain his reasons for carrying it at night.
He has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, which contravenes Section 313(1) of the Penal Code.
