Police in Mchinji have arrested two women for being found in possession of large quantities of unlicensed marijuana.
Mchinji Police spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira stated that the suspects are Pauline Nyirenda and Amina Jumbo, both aged 27.
The arrests followed a tip-off from local residents who informed the police that the women were dealing marijuana at the Tikoliwe market.
This led the police to raid the location and successfully recover the drugs.
Pauline Nyirenda is from Mkandawamoto village, under the chiefdom of Mlonyeni in the district, while Amina Jumbo hails from Mpezeni village, under the chiefdom of Mponda in Balaka.
The two are expected to appear in court to face charges related to the possession of marijuana without a license.
