Information reaching this publication indicates that teachers who are marking this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations at St Mary’s Secondary School in Zomba are staging a sit-in over allowances.
The disgruntled teachers are also protesting against meals being given to them.
“I am one of them and its true that we have stopped marking the exams because of the treatment that we’re getting here,” said one of the concerned teachers who opted for anonymity.
It has further been revealed that there is an issue of transport refund where refund forms were signed and approved but surprisingly, what they are getting especially those that have finished marking is less than what they signed.
“We have been given expired items like bread and insecticides with an insult word that if we don’t want to use them we should just dispose them,” the source added.
Government is yet to comment on the matter.
