The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has asked the speaker of parliament Catherine Gotani Hara to institute a joint parliamentary committee to investigate circumstances surrounding the abduction of 26-year old British National Muhammad Kasiman in July this year.

Kasiman was abducted in Lilongwe by unknown abductors in the capital Lilongwe last month.

In a statement seen by this publication CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa expresses concern at the Malawi Police Service and the family members for failing to provide a detailed account on what happened.

Namiwa observed that abduction is a serious security concern globally and there is a need for parliament to consider establishing a committee of parliamentarians from trade and security committees to assist in following up the matter.
