Old Mutual (Malawi) Limited has moved in to sponsor this year’s Malawi International Arbitration Centre Symposium (MIAC) scheduled for 5-6 September at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.

Speaking after presenting the Cheque Old Mutual Pension Services Company General Manager, Taonga Manda said the company believes in in MIAC’s transformative potential for Malawi’s business sector hence the support.

“The initiative is timely and crucial because it will help in alleviating the burden on our courts, particularly the High Court of Malawi Commercial Division, and to provide a faster, more confidential means of resolving disputes,” said Manda.

On his part MIAC Chairperson Patrick Mpaka hailed Old Mutual for the donation and he urged other companies in the country to do so.

Mpaka went further to say that MIAC is designed to provide a private sector-led, neutral and independent facility for the resolution of commercial and investment disputes.

MIAC is a joint venture private company by the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industries (MCCCI) and the Malawi Law Society (MLS).

It seeks to establish and maintain a private sector led neutral and independent facility for the resolution or settlement of commercial, investment and other disputes by way of arbitration, mediation and like processes.
