As divisions continue to rock United Transformation Movement (UTM), some governors led by Steve Mikaya have asked the top leadership to call for an early elective conference with an aim of resolving differences in the party.
Speaking during a meeting organized by UTM Regional Governor for the South, Steve Mikaya, Governess Alinafe Chinyanga from Phalombe, Gertrude Payenda from Mwanza and district governor for Thyolo, Charles George said the only solution to address the existing challenges is to hold the elective conference at least between September and October this year.
On his part, Mikaya reminded the governors that Dr Michael Usi remains the party’s president until the next convention is held.
But as Mikaya was addressing the grassroots leaders on this, a clear display of discontent was seen among the faces of some governors with others murmuring and openly talking in disagreement.
In a separate interview, UTM spokesperson, Felix Njawala said dates for the party’s convention will be announced soon by the Secretary General, Patricia Kaliati.
UTM is currently divided into two camps (that of the Vice President Dr. Michael Usi and the camp of Kaliati).
Kaliati’s camp regards Usi as an outsider.
