The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) is still investigating the cause of the plane crash that killed Malawi’s late Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others.
Contrary to some reports, no official report has been submitted yet. However, the BFU verbally briefed the bereaved family and the government on their initial findings, including the recovery of a Global Positioning System (GPS) from the wreckage.
The BFU has announced that it will publish an Interim Report on its website this Friday, August 30, 2024. The government will alert the public once the report is released.
A separate investigation into the cause of death of the passengers was conducted by a laboratory in Blantyre at the request of the bereaved family, and the final autopsy report was released in June 2024.
