Malawian social media influencer Onjezani Kenani has made a concrete condemned the idea of selling Malawi’s Tourism works in English Premier League Teams.
Kenani made the sentiment after Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule adreesed the August house yesterday saying Malawi needs about 20 billion kwacha for it to place the Visit Malawi adverts on a Spainsh La Liga team’s jerseys or even place adverts on English Premier League teams adding that Rwanda is benefiting a lot from the Visit Rwanda ad on Arsenal jersey.
However, Kenani has said that Malawi can use the same amount of money to construct very useful projects that will benefit local Malawians.
“Malawi Let us not jump the gun. Tourists will not flock to Malawi just because you stamp “Visit Malawi” on an Arsenal shirt. Let’s focus on the ongoing task of improving the infrastructure first, then at an opportune time, stamp Arsenal shirts with slogans. For now, how about buying medicine for our hospitals?” said Kenani.
Meanwhile, the Minister has noted some misunderstandings following her statement and she has elaborated her statement it has come time to clear up any confusion saying that making partnership Euro Teams comes with a substantial financial cost, estimated at around 20 billion kwacha. This is not a simple undertaking, and it is her duty to consider the realities of Malawi budget and the best use of our resources.
Vera’s sentiment has taken social media by storm and it has brought mixed reaction among Malawi netizens as others are rebuffing the idea while others are supporting the minster as they have already started designing EPL team jersey with Visit Malawi stamp.
