The police in Liwonde, Machinga District, have arrested a 29-year-old teacher from Namalasa Primary School, Lester Mayiwa, on allegations of engaging in sexual activities with a 13-year-old student.
Police spokesperson Ngwashape Msume reported that the student had been missing several times between July and August this year, which raised concerns.
Msume said that when the student was found on the 12th of this month, he admitted to having sexual relations with the teacher, claiming he had promised to help her with her exams.
The student’s mother reported the matter to the police, and after a medical examination, it was confirmed that the student had indeed been involved with the teacher.
The suspect is expected to appear before court soon.
