A 51-year-old woman in Nsanje, Nsanje district has died after being stabbed with a knife because she was suspected of killing her husband through witchcraft.
The deceased has been identified as Amines Banuwelo of Nyamula village in traditional Authority Tengani in the district.
The woman met with this tragedy yesterday on 26 August 2024 when the body of her late husband, Banuwelo Lamya, arrived in the village from the Nsanje government hospital.
According to the victim, Yolamu Eferemu, who is the son of the woman’s late husband’s cousin, while the funeral was being carried into the house, people stabbed the woman in the chest with a knife and she died shortly after arriving at the Nsanje hospital where she was taken to receive help.
It is reported that the suspects in this case have escaped in the village by using a motorcycle and it is believed that he fled to the neighboring country of Mozambique.
So far, the police in Nsanje district have not yet commented on the matter.
