The Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) has asked Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) to adjust fuel prices in the country to avoid unnecessary fuel shortages

Executive Director for CAMA, John Kapito, has made the call in a statement while alleging that MERA has for so long been holding the fuel price increases in the country which he claims has resulted in accumulation of heavy losses by the petroleum oil importers.

Kapito told MERA that the increase will be done based on the prices of the oil in the foreign market.

“It is better to have high oil prices than to have oil shortages”, said Kapito.

Currently, petrol is trading at K2530 per litre while diesel is selling at K2734 per litre.

The last time MERA raised fuel prices was in November last year.
