The head coach of the national soccer team, Patrick Mabedi, has released a 30-player squad for the upcoming matches. This announcement was made today, Friday, at Mpira Village in Chiwembe, Blantyre, as preparations begin for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burundi and Burkina Faso.
Mabedi explained that Mhango was left out of the squad for specific reasons. The coach also revealed that he had considered players such as Alick Lungu, Crispin Mapemba, and Chikumbutso Salima from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, as well as Tatenda M’balaka from Silver Strikers and Richard Mbulu, who plays in Mozambique, but they were excluded due to injuries.
Once again, Mabedi has left out Gabahdinho Muhango but he did not give reason behind the decision. Isaac Kaliati, who has been performing well at Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, was not called up as Mabedi felt he might need more time to fit into the team’s plans.
Meanwhile, Yamikani Chester from Costa Do Sol, who was previously omitted due to age concerns, has been included in the squad.
Malawi is set to play against Burundi at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe next week on Thursday and will face Burkina Faso five days later.
