Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General Peter Mukhito has backed a move by former President Peter Mutharika to appoint numerous advisors ahead of the 2025 polls.

Mukhito’s remarks follow concerns from some party members regarding the appointment of advisors to the President of the party.

But responding to the concerns in a statement, he indicated that according to the constitution of the party, the president is granted the authority to appoint an unlimited number of advisors.

“These advisors report directly to the president and do not hold any operational responsibilities within the party structures,” Mukhito said in the statement.

A day ago, the party through the Presidential Spokesperson and National Publicity Secretary Shadric Namalomba announced at least eight Presidential advisors whom among them include Dr. Clement Mwale, Dr. George Chaponda, Chimwemwe Chipungu, Jean Mathanga, and Everton Chimulirenji.
