A 44-year-old Malawian man from Mchinji has, committed suicide by drinking pesticides after he failed to repay a loan amounting to K7000 in Zambia (K679,000 in Malawi).
Mchinji police have confirmed the matter and have they have identified the deceased as Isaac Lamulani Banda.
According to the Bvubwi police in Zambia who escorted the funeral to Malawi in Misale Mfumu Kazawe area, T/A Mlonyeni, the deceased took a loan from another person but did not use it properly which caused them to fail to repay the owner.
But the family members of the deceased said that the money they took was not only K7000 but the deceased also took other things from people which dragged their hands.
Speaking at the funeral ceremony, King Kazawe urged people that it is better to take a hoe and do some piece work to repay debts than to take a life.
