Thyolo First Grade Magistrate court has convicted and sentenced a 24 year-old man to 13 years imprisonment for allegedly defiling 1 13 year-old girl.
The state prosecutor Felix Senzani identified the convict as Brian Bonongwe and he told the court that convict committed the offence on August 28, 2024 at Mendulo village in the district.
According to Senzani, during the above stated date, the convict dragged the child to the bush and defiled her as she was coming from initiation ceremony.
It is reported that, someone saw them but the man managed to escape until the police caught them. And the results of the hospital confirmed that the girl was indeed defiled.
When appearing in court Bonongwe accepted the charges and asked for a lighter sentence, while Mr. Senzani said the judges should protect children by following the examples of strict punishments that others are currently giving in these cases.
