Police in Nkhata-Bay have arrested Brian Banda 21, Stanley Muwamba 45 and three others from Chibako Village Traditional Authority Fukamapiri on suspicion that they damaged houses and steal livestock belonging to Happy Phiri at Kazando in the district.
The suspects according to Nkhata-Bay police allegedly set ablaze and damaged four houses and stole three goats and some chickens in retaliation over the death of their relative George Muwamba who was murdered by the owner of the said property.
As he was defending himself from the four people including the late Muwamba who attacked him on land related issues, Phiri allegedly hacked Muwamba on August 18, 2024 who died later while receiving treatment at Chintheche rural hospital.
Nkhata-Bay police spokesperson, Sergeant Kondwani James has confirmed the development to Zodiak Online this evening saying five of the suspects who were behind the damaging and stealing of the property have now been arrested.
He added that they have been charged with arson, malicious damage and theft and they will appear in court on September 4, 2024 to answer the charges levelled against them.
