Vice-President Michael Usi has bemoaned the rampant corruption in the country saying it is suffocating the development of the nation.

Usi said this at Mudi Residence in Blantyre this morning where he held a meeting with some German nationals, who complained that government officials were demanding bribes to allow them carry out some charity work.

Said Usi: “We don’t want this in our country because corruption is one of the major issues suffocating the development of the country. So we will deal with all the corrupt officers.”

In an interview after the engagement, Aaron Landt, who is Landt Foundation chief executive officer, disclosed that his organisation was about to leave the country as they saw there was no need to give people bribes first for the organisation to carry out its work.
