Police in Kasungu have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of allegedly beat to death Eleson Phiri for stealing mean of an animal he killed in the bush.
The deputy spokesperson for Kasungu police Miracle Hauli has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Yosefe Phiri.
According to Hauli, Yosefe was with his two accomplice when committing the offence on 3 September and police are still looking for them as they are busy tracing their whereabouts.
“The deceased is said to have entered Phiri’s house where he was cooking meat, and as soon as he left, the meat that was being cooked disappeared.
Then the suspects started chasing him until he managed to find him and brought him to a house where they beat him and tied Phiri to a tree whole night.
According to Hauli, Eleson was taken to the small hospital in Chimwamkango in the morning and later on he was transferred to main hospital in Mkanda where he died.
Kamboni police arrested Yosef and charged him with murder which is contrary to Section 209 of the Criminal Code in this country.
The results of the hospital says Phiri died because of losing a lot of blood and ruptured arteries. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
Yosefe Phiri hails from Nthunduwala,village of ST/A Nthunduwala in the district.
