A 32-year-old man, Bost Chihama, has died after allegedly hanging himself at Naviziba Village in the area of Senior Chief Mwaulambia in Chitipa district.
According to Chitipa Police Station assistant public relations officer Bright Mfune, the incident occurred yesterday.
Mfune said the deceased left home for a market day at Lufita on Wednesday 4 September and he did not return until the early hours of Thursday, when his body was discovered hanging in a mango tree some metres away from his house by his grandfather, who reported the matter to police.
Postmortem results indicate that death was due to suffocation.
Mfune added that the reasons for the apparent suicide is not yet known.
Meanwhile, the police in the district are urging people to seek advice from authorities or visit the Victim Support Unit for counseling and psycho-social support whenever they meet challenges.
Chihama hailed from Chimera village in the area of Senior Chief Mwaulambia in the district.
