The office of Ombudsman Grace Malera has written the office of the Inspector General of Police Meryline Yolamu on a complaint over the transfer of Lingazi Police spokesperson Cassim Manda to the Malawi-Mozambique border at Fort Maguire.

The move follows a complaint from the family members who claim the transfer is politically motivated.

The family is also fearing for their son’s safety due to the circumstances surrounding his transfer and are asking the office of the Inspector General to transfer the officer to any police unit in Nkhotakota, his home village, which the family believes is the safest place for their relative.

Sergeant Manda was transferred around 3 am on September 5 without receiving a formal transfer notification until 8 am, when the message was forwarded to the Lingadzi portal.

In a bizarre incident that same night, Area 30 sent a vehicle to ferry him from the said place, and Transport Manager Inspector Evance Banda allegedly advised the authorities not to disclose the issue to him until the vehicle arrived at his house.

Malera is demanding answers from Yolamu regarding how the men in uniform handled the transfer of Manda.
