Lilongwe Police is keeping in custody 18-year-old Thomson Mapondo, on suspicion that he stabbed to death Madalitso Manyungwa, 23, over payment disagreements for services the latter offered as a braai master during a party at Chinsapo 2, on Sunday, 8 September 2024.
Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Hastings Chigalu said on the said date at around 20:00 hours, the suspect and others were having a party at Chinsapo 2, where Manyungwa (deceased), was hired to provide services as a braai master.
However, disagreements erupted when Manyungwa (deceased) asked for his payment after offering the braai services to the patrons.
It is alleged that in the heat of the disagreements, the suspect took a broken glass bottle, and stabbed Manyungwa on the lateral side of the neck.
Unfortunately, Manyungwa was pronounced dead upon arrival at Likuni Mission Hospital where he was rushed to.
Postmortem done by Kamuzu Central Hospital medical personnel revealed that death was due to sudden “Cardiovascular collapse as a result of severe hemorrhage shock from Carotid Artery”.
Both the suspect and the deceased hail from Chinsapo 2 Village, Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe District.
The suspect will be charged with murder.
Meanwhile, Lilongwe Police would like to assure residents, and all people that it has intensified patrols and intelligence gathering in the area to quell sporadic scenes of violence which erupted following the incident. The situation is under control.
