Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested three men, John Phiri 26, Richard Phiri 25 and Jailos Phiri 28 on suspicion that they assaulted a 40-year-old man, Augustin Mafuleka who later died on August 24, 2024 while receiving treatment at Mzuzu Central Hospital.
After gathering information Jenda Police detectives carried out an intelligence driven operation during the night of September 09, 2024 and managed to apprehend the three suspects from where they have been hiding.
It has been established that on August 8, 2024 the three suspects together with Augustin Mafuleka (now deceased) whilst at a drinking joint at Luwerezi, picked a fight over beer and the three ganged against Mafuleka who got heavily assaulted after the fight.
He was taken to Jenda Rural Hospital for medical treatment where he was later referred to Mzuzu Central Hospital as his condition had worsen.
Mafuleka died on August 24, 2024 whilst receiving treatment at the facility.
The three suspects have been charged with murder which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code and will appear before court upon completion of paper work to answer their charges.
Mafuleka hailed from Kampheta Mafuleka village, Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba district.
