Determination by Ombudsman Grace Tikambenji Malera requires the Malawi Police Service (MPS) to issue a written apology to its former employee, Mr. Tchaka Soko, for not providing reasons for his dismissal.

Honorable Malera’s directive follows a complaint lodged by Soko in 2007, who alleged that the MPS terminated his employment without notice in 1992.

“The respondent should furnish the written apology to the complainant within 30 days from the date of this determination,” the directive states.

However, the Ombudsman clarified that the MPS did not err in relieving Soko of his duties based on his prolonged illness.

Meanwhile, MPS is yet to comment on the matter.
