A 57-year-old chief, Stand Ayami, died after being struck by an electric shock while trying to steal electrical wires. The incident occurred at the Chipunga estate of Chief Bwananyambi in Mangochi.
Reports suggest that the chief went to the estate but never returned home. His body was found at the estate this morning, having been burned by the electric shock.
In the chief’s possession were a hacksaw and some wires from the ESCOM (Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi).
The chief was from the Assan village and served as a senior chief for Chief Bwananyambi in Mangochi.
