Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba expressed surprise that the current President is telling the people of Malawi that his government has brought in motor vehicle fuel tankers via a railway shipment.
This comes as President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has welcomed the shipment of fuel tankers into the country through the railway line in Nsanje, which has not been utilized for over 40 years.
However, according to Namalomba, this is not accurate, as the railway route from Beira in Mozambique to Malawi’s border with Mozambique was established by the Mozambican government.
Namalomba stated, “The current government is failing to tell Malawians the truth that the railway line was initiated by us, the DPP, and we will complete it once we return to power in 2025.”
He added that it would have been better if the government had been truthful about the situation, especially as Malawians are already experiencing tough times.
