Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General, Richard Chimwendo Banda has said that President Lazarus Chakwera did not play any role in the death of former vice president Saulos Chilima.
Speaking at MCP rally in Lilongwe, Chimwendo said even God knows that Chakwera did not have a hand in the death of Chilima adding only God knows what happened.
He emphasized that all those that are using Chilima’s death as campaign tool, God should punish them.
“Those of us that are close to you know how painful the death of former vice president Saulos Chilima was to you. It was the first time I saw you crying and looking very devastated.
“While we were grieving and are still grieving about Chilima death, there are others that are using Chilima’s death for their personal interest. There are some who come in Parliament and laugh about it, there are recordings in place. When they talk about Chilima’s death they laugh. It pains us that,” said Chimwendo.
On his part, Chakwera condemned individuals who are using rumors surrounding the death of Chilima as a political campaign tool.
He urged Malawians to question those spreading false information about Chilima’s death, asking if these claims are supported by reports from German experts and postmortems conducted by doctors.
Chakwera emphasized that he and the late Chilima made a commitment to serve the people of Malawi and stated that he will not engage in politics of castigation but instead, he remains focused on the responsibilities entrusted to him as president.
Chilima died in a plane crash together with 7 others on June 10, 2024 in Chikangawa Forest.
