President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed General Peter Andrew Lapken Namathanga (Retired) as Malawi’s new Ambassador to Zimbabwe, succeeding McLloyd Polepole, who has been reassigned to the position of Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to a communication from the Office of the President and Cabinet, General Namathanga has been requested to appear before the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) for confirmation of his appointment, as stipulated in section 190 of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi.

PAC Chairperson Joyce Chitsulo has confirmed that the committee will schedule a date for his confirmation hearing.
