The Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has strongly condemned the acts of violence that have engulfed the country, signaling a destabilizing factor into the forthcoming Malawi’s electoral equation.

The condemnation follows the chaotic scenes that marred a trip by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in in the lowershire last week.

It all started when youths of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) uprooted flags of the opposition political parties. In retaliation, some youths pelted stones at the convoy of President Chakwera.

The law enforcers had to fire teargas to disperse the angry villagers who damaged several vehicles.

A statement signed by Chairperson Msgr. Dr. Patrick Thawale and Publicity Secretary has urged political players to restrain themselves from retaliation to allow the enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

“In this regard, the enforcement agencies should be swift to deal with these developments to avoid pilling up uncompleted investigations and prosecutions,” reads in part the statement.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is scheduled to hold the tripartite election on September 16, 2025.
