A 27-year-old woman turned herself in to the police after the body of her newborn baby was discovered in a freezer in South Africa. The body was found in a shack on Wednesday by a resident in Kutloanong.

“Upon arrival at the scene, members discovered the body of a newborn baby inside a chest freezer wrapped in a tracksuit top placed inside a plastic carry bag,” said Free State police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng.

The mother, who was not present when the body was found, allegedly went to a local tavern after giving birth. She was later seen trending on social media and has been arrested.

The case of concealment of birth is under investigation, and she will appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrates Court on Monday.
