A second-year student at Copperbelt University (CBU) in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has been brutally murdered by unknown criminals who also stole his cell phone.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 22:30 hours as the student was returning from campus to Chipata Compound in Kitwe, where his boarding house is located.
Before he could pass through the campus’s small gate, he was attacked by unidentified individuals who fled with his phone.
Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba, said the matter was reported by Mulenga Musonda, the victim’s uncle at Kitwe East Police Station.
He explained that Mr Musonda reported his nephew, Kafula Musonda, aged 21, a second-year student at CBU, had been attacked by unknown criminals.
Mr Mweemba noted that the victim sustained two deep cuts to the head, inflicted with an unknown instrument.
“Briefly, on Saturday around 22:30 hours, the victim was returning from campus to Chipata Compound in Kitwe, where his boarding house is, and before he could pass through the small campus gate, he was attacked by unknown individuals who took his phone,” he said.
Mr Mweemba added that the victim managed to reach a community police post in Chipata Compound, approximately 600 meters from the gate, where he found Bruce Chembe, aged 50, who then informed Kitwe East Police Station.
He said upon arrival, officers found the victim unconscious and rushed him to Kitwe Teaching Hospital, where he was admitted.
“Sadly, the victim died yesterday around 09:00 hours at Kitwe Teaching Hospital. The body has been deposited in the mortuary, awaiting post-mortem and burial,” he said.
