In Chingola, Zambia, an unidentified individual has reportedly abandoned two babies, suspected to be twins, at the residence of a local police officer. The incident occurred around 8:00 PM when the babies were discovered fast asleep in the backyard of the officer’s home.

According to Peacewell Mweemba, the Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, the police officer, identified as Helen Masakamika from Nchanga Police Station, had left her home around 7:00 PM to visit the market. Upon returning an hour later, she found the infants near her front door. The babies were initially assessed and appeared healthy.

Officer Masakamika called her neighbors in an attempt to identify the children, but no one recognized them. Subsequently, the matter was reported to the Nchanga Police Station. The babies were then taken to Nchanga North General Hospital, where they have been admitted and are receiving care in Ward 7.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the identity of the person or mother responsible for abandoning the infants.
