In a court in Lilongwe, eight individuals were sentenced to 19 years in prison for armed robbery after being found guilty of stealing from two citizens of China, taking a total of 30 million kwacha.

They also shot and killed the victims with an AK-47 rifle. This crime was committed last year in May in the Njewa area.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor Saddrey Sambo requested that the court impose a severe sentence on the defendants, stating that they took the lives of two innocent people and instilled fear in others who wish to conduct business in the country.

Judge Rodrick Michongwe described the defendants as dangerous and a setback to development, emphasizing that they deserved their punishment.

He ultimately ruled that the defendants should serve 19 years in prison so that others may learn from their actions.
