Some concerned citizen from Machinjiri Township have penned business man Alex Chimwala to re-consider his decision to pull-out from frontline politics.
Chimwala, an aspiring lawmaker for South Lunzu Constituency on Tuesday pulled out from frontline politics, saying his involvement in politics is negatively affecting his personal businesses.
“After a long and careful soul-searching, I have decided to retire from active politics. I have painfully realised that my involvement in active politics has greatly affected my business. For example, it is difficult for a politically exposed businessman to earn and sustain the trust of stakeholders such as clients and banks; hence this decision.
“To all my supporters, I say thank you for standing with me all these years I have been in active politics. God bless us all,” said Chimwala in the statement.
But this has not gone down well with some concerned citizens from Machinjiri, asking him to reconsider the decision.
“We have received your message with heavy hearts but with full understanding of your decision to step back from pursuing active politics. We respect your concern regarding the impact it has had on your business and appreciate the careful consideration you have given to this choice.
“However, we, the community of Machinjiri, must respectfully ask you to reconsider. Your involvement in politics is not just a career move—it is a calling. Your commitment to our community goes far beyond the pursuit of a political office, and your unwavering dedication to the people of Machinjiri is something we deeply value,” reads in part the letter.
Below is the full open letter to Chimwala;
Dear Mr. Chimwala,
We have received your message with heavy hearts but with full understanding of your decision to step back from pursuing active politics. We respect your concern regarding the impact it has had on your business and appreciate the careful consideration you have given to this choice.
However, we, the community of Machinjiri, must respectfully ask you to reconsider. Your involvement in politics is not just a career move—it is a calling. Your commitment to our community goes far beyond the pursuit of a political office, and your unwavering dedication to the people of Machinjiri is something we deeply value.
To highlight all the projects and support you’ve given to this community would take us all day. From infrastructure improvements to empowering local businesses and championing education, your leadership has had a transformative impact on Machinjiri. You have never treated politics as an avenue to personal gain; you have consistently stayed true to your roots, serving us with integrity and devotion.
Unlike others who seek political positions for the sake of power, you have remained committed to Machinjiri. You have not chased opportunities in other areas like Balaka or Sanje, but have chosen to remain a true son of this land. This is what sets you apart and what makes you our leader in more ways than one.
Mr. Chimwala, your work is far from done. The future of Machinjiri still needs your vision and dedication. We hope you will continue your journey with us and lead this community toward greater prosperity.
May God bless you as you reflect on this decision, and may He guide you to continue serving the people who believe in you.
Yours in unity,
The People of Machinjiri
