Eighteen people from a village in Zalewa, Neno district, were rushed to Lisungwi Hospital after consuming a type of beans that they believe may be poisonous.

According to one of the affected individuals, who is also a relative of some of the others, they ate the beans prepared by a woman running a local business in Kalongonda for sale.

They reported that both adults and children who consumed the beans began vomiting and experienced diarrhea, prompting their urgent transport to the hospital.

Currently, thirteen people have been admitted to the hospital, while five others received treatment on-site. As of now, hospital officials have not commented on the matter.
