Information reaching this publication indicates that over five people have been arrested for allegedly pelting stones at President Lazarus Chakwera’s motorcade in Chikwawa last week.

It is said that police officers raided the Mkhathe area Wednesday night and picked at least five suspects in connection with the incident.

The fracas in Chikwawa erupted after some youth of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) uprooted frags of the opposition political parties.

In retaliation, villagers pelted stones at the convoy.

The law enforcers had to intervene by firing teargas to disperse the angry villagers.

Faceofmalawi is following up the matter.
