UPDATE: 20-Year-Old Arrested in Chikwawa for Leaving Baby in Toilet

Information reaching this publication indicates that police in Chikwawa are searching for a woman suspected of having abandoned her child in a toilet, and they have since arrested her.

According to the deputy police spokesperson for Ngabu, the woman, Maria Akimu, 20, is being held on suspicion of having left her newborn in a toilet. They arrested her after receiving information from local residents about her whereabouts.

The spokesperson, Chancy Mfune, stated that when questioned about the incident, Akimu admitted to abandoning her baby shortly after giving birth.

Akimu was recently seen in court to respond to charges of concealing the birth of a child, which violates section 232 of the country’s criminal laws.

She hails from Mwadula, Senior Chief Ngabu in the district.
