Blantyre, Malawi – The Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has pointed fingers at power utility company Escom for the ongoing water shortages affecting the city of Blantyre.

In a press statement released today on  23 September, 2024, BWB highlighted that persistent power outages have severely disrupted operations at several of its pumping stations, including Mudi, Midima, Ndirande, Sochi, Kanjeza, and along Zomba Road.

“Due to this prolonged power failure, water levels in our storage tanks are decreasing significantly as we are not pumping, and this will lead to low water pressure and no water supply in some areas,” the statement said.

BWB has apologised to its customers for the inconvenience and assured the public that it is working closely with Escom to resolve the power outage issue as soon as possible.

The water shortages have compounded challenges for residents, many of whom rely on BWB for their daily water supply.
