Malawi’s celebrated Afro-Pop musician, Dan Lufani, known as Dan Lu, has announced that he has joined the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), leaving the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) behind.
Dan Lu was welcomed by MCP officials at Baka School in Karonga during a party event.
In his own words, Dan Lu stated that he decided to join MCP because he is “a young person who is aware” and has witnessed the visible progress made by the party.
He has also released a song titled “Chakwera,” in which he praises the MCP leader and the country’s president, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
The decision to join MCP has faced backlash from various individuals, who argue that Dan Lu is a die-hard DPP supporter and that he has switched parties merely for financial gain.
Many have suggested that Dan Lu may return to DPP if the party wins the 2025 elections.
