Three people tragically lost their lives, and several others sustained various injuries in a road accident in Chikwawa involving a Toyota lorry carrying 60 passengers returning from a football match.

Chikwawa police publicist, Sergeant Dickson Matemba, reported that the accident occurred around 18:30 hours on Sartuday at Nyaekha trading centre.

“The vehicle was coming from the direction of Ngabu en route to Bangula,” he stated. The truck, with registration number BT 1278, overturned as the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle.

The deceased have been identified as Antio Isaac, 22, Brian Peterson, 29, and Chifundo Gelard, 22, all residents of Chapomoka village T/A Ngabu in Chikwawa. Matemba mentioned that the casualties were taken to Ngabu Rural Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, while others remain under treatment.

According to Sergeant Matemba, the driver fled the scene and will face charges of causing death by reckless driving, in violation of Section 126 of the Road Traffic Act if apprehended.
