Police have confirmed the death of a 28-year-old man, Patrick Joloza, who drowned in Lake Malawi in Salima.

According to Salima Police public relations officer Rabecca Ndiwate, Joloza had traveled from Lilongwe to a beach resort along the lake with friends.

While at the resort, the group began swimming in restricted areas, prompting a worker to ask them to move away. Shortly after, Joloza was reported missing.

The lifeguard team was notified, and upon searching, his body was found about 80 meters from the shore.

The police, along with medical personnel, visited the scene and confirmed that Joloza died from suffocation due to drowning.

He hailed from Sawali village, Traditional Authority Sawali in Salima.
