The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has quashed rumours hovering on social media claiming that former President Peter Mutharika met former Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Timothy Mtambo where the latter apologized.

The social media is awash with reports that Mutharika and Mtambo who is also Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) Vice President met in close door.

The reports are accompanied by a photo showing Mtambo with Mutharika’s body Norman Chisale exchanging caps.

But in a statement signed by DPP spokesperson Shacreck Namalomba, the party has described the rumour as fake.

“These claims are false and baseless. There was no meeting between the two, and therefore no apologies was given,” said Namalomba in a statement.
