A 1-year 8-month-old baby from Kanjanji Village near ZNS Camp in Choma district in Zambia has died after reportedly drowning in a bucket of water at her residence.
The deceased, named Fortune Mudadabale, met his tragic fate while playing with other children.
He jumped into a 20-liter bucket of water outside the house and drowned.
The incident occurred on September 21, 2024, and was reported by the victim’s father, Witness Mudadabele.
He explained that he had left home to mold bricks nearby, while his wife had gone to fetch firewood, leaving the children alone, with the eldest being 10 years old.
Southern Province Public Relations Officer, Auxensio Daka, confirmed the development, stating that upon seeing what had happened, the 10-year-old carried the deceased to the father, who then took him to ZNS Clinic, where the boy was pronounced dead.
Daka noted that no foul play is suspected.
