A 20-year-old suspect, Joseph Banda from George Compound in Lusaka Zambia, has allegedly been murdered by fellow detainees while in custody at Matero Police Station.

The incident reportedly occurred after 23:00 hours on 22nd September 2024, with Banda being held on a charge of aggravated robbery.

Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, stated that an officer discovered Banda’s lifeless body around 08:00 hours on 23rd September during a routine check in Cell Number Three.

Hamoonga noted that the deceased was found with a swollen chin and bruises on both hands, indicating he had been assaulted.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he was tied and beaten.

He stated that 12 suspects have been identified and investigations are ongoing.
