Local Contractors working under Malawi Building, Civil Engineering and Allied Trade Association (Mabcata) are reportedly on the ground pushing to vacate an injunction obtained by Roads Fund Administration (RFA) over planned takeover of the management of two road tolling facilities at Chingeni in Ntcheu and Kalinyeke in Dedza districts.
MABCATA Executive Member Alex Chimwala confirmed of the development in an interview with the press after a failed meeting with Dedza District Council top officials on Monday.
“The law does not favour anyone we will use the same law to vacate the same injunction. All in all it is unfortunate that RFA has opted to obtain an injunction instead for dialogue,” said Chimwala.
RFA is owing the Local Contractors over MK50 billion and the Local Contractors has on several times engaged RFA and Ministry of Transport and Public Works.
But the effort yielded nothing.
The Local contractors then organised a vigil at RFA offices in the capital Lilongwe and this also proved futile.
The disgruntled Local Contractors then threatened to takeover and open the tollgates starting from today, September 24, 2024, the move forced RFA to rush to Court on the matter.
